SPIRIT OF THE FORTY- SECONDNarrative of the 42nd Battalion, 11th Infantry Brigade 3rd Division, AIF 1914-18

This was a Queensland unit, First raised in late 1915 as the 36th Bn, but then redesignated as the 42nd Bn in early 1916. After three months training in England it landed in France on 26 November 1916 and fought on the Western Front for the remainder of the war. The Bn suffered 1674 casualties of which 544 were fatal. The narrative gives good detail of places and events and is a sound historical source. Roll of Honour Honours and Awards (including many full citations), and unit nominal roll complete this history.
