Ulysses Joseph Strick
Based on James Joyce's 1922 novel. Poet Stephen Dedalus returns from exile just before his mother's death. This time the hero is an ordinary Jew, Leopold Bloom, whose odyssey through the streets of Dublin on June 16th 1904 leads him through trials which parallel his classic prototype, Ulysses. Strick's film is absolutely faithful to the book, and it contains sexually explicit language which was so controversial at the time that it contributed to it being baned in Ireland for over 30 years. Received an Academy Award Nomination for Best (Adapted) Screenplay and five BAFTA nominations.
