The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus var en unik koncertoplevelse optaget over to dage i december 1968 med en masse prominente gæsteoptrædener fra navne som The Who, Jethro Tull, Taj Mahal, Marianne Faithfull og den improviserede supergruppe The Dirty Mac (John Lennon, Keith Richards, Mitch Mitchell, Eric Clapton og Yoko Ono) såvel som det originale lineup af The Rolling Stones, selvfølgelig.

Showet blev optaget i et TV-studie i London af instruktør Michael Lindsay-Hogg (der kort tid efter også optog Let It Be) og fokuserer på The Rolling Stones som band og som en art konferencier eller værter for de andre performere. Publikum bestod af fanklubmedlemmer og showet var oprindeligt tiltænkt som en BBC TV Special tilknyttet albummesterværket Beggars Banquet. Men da guitarist Brian Jones forlod bandet og kort tid efter døde, blev projektet skrinlagt og ikke udgivet før 28 år senere i 1996.

Nu genudgives den sagnomspundne koncert endelig i tre forskellige versioner. Deluxeudgaven her indeholder showet på DVD samt, for første gang, på Blu-ray + 2 CD'er med showet, inkl. udvalgte lydoptagelser, der ikke blev vist i den oprindelige TV-udsendelse.
