Contributor Bio:  Unknown As a pediatrician, writer, wife, and mother, Perri Klass has demonstrated how medicine is integral to the health of families and communities, and how doctors themselves struggle to balance the conflicting needs of profession, self, and family. As medical director of Reach Out and Read, she encourages other pediatricians to foster pre-reading skills in their young patients. While earning her M. D. at Harvard, Klass contributed articles to "Mademoiselle" and "The New York Times" as well as to scientific and medical journals. She also wrote her first book, "A Not Entirely Benign Procedure "(1987), which chronicles her introduction to medicine and motherhood. In the following years she has continued to publish books, essays, award-winning short stories, a novel, and numerous articles, ranging from professional papers to popular journalism and travel pieces. Contributor Bio:  Reich, Bernard Bernard Reich is professor of political sci-ence and international affairs and chair-man of the Department of Political Science at The George Washington University, Washington, D. C., where he specializes in the politics of the Middle East. He holds a B. A. degree--cum laude, with special honors in government--from the City Col-lege of New York, and an M. A. and a Ph. D. in foreign affairs from the University of Vir-ginia. Dr. Reich received a Fulbright Re-search Scholar Grant for study in Egypt in 1965 and a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship for study in Israel in 1971-72, during which time he was ap-pointed as Visiting Research Associate at Tel Aviv University's Shiloah Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies. He is a consultant to the Department of State on Middle Eastern and African Studies. He is a consultant to the Department of State on Middle Eastern affairs and lectures regu-larly for various U. S. agencies, including the Foreign Service Institute and the De-fense Intelligence School. He has also tes-tified before the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs concerning the Arab-Israeli situation after the October War.
