Willie Smith's life as a black man has been controlled by Ralph Abercrombie most of his life. Abercrombie, an oil man's bodyguard, and right-hand man hired Willie during the Tulsa Race Massacre to do his dirty work. While Willie worked for him he did several things he regretted, but life was hard for a black man in the 1920's. Tulsa was a town with lots of money and Abercrombie was a mobster who determined to get rich. Nick Underwood was a student at Tulsa University in 2002. Even though Abercrombie was long gone, his control and crimes entertwined Nick's family and Willie's with Abercrombie's. Willie was the one person who knew about the gold Abercrombie stored over eighty years earlier. But now Willie was old and frail, and still hesitant to talk about what happened during his early life.
