GEENIE MADDA, sweet and unsophisticated, knows a secret about the mansion that shelters her big ItalianAmerican family for much of the 20th century. The secret centers around the old disused ballroom found in the mansion's uppermost floor while Geenie's loved ones live out their lives below. There's her parents-entrepreneurial Pietro and passionate Thea. Geenie's siblings-Primo, Vincente, Minna and Anthony. The gruff but loyal handyman Jude Macklewood. And, presiding over all, the controlling dynamo of a grandmother known mainly as "Nona." Snapshots in Enclosed Spaces traces each life as war, economic depression, race riots and urban decay affect the large home commanding the corner of a once gracious neighborhood in downtown Memphis, Tennessee. And even though it is a story focused on the past, it asks the very modern day question-who owns the stuff of who we are?
