Barrington

BARRINGTONOn a blustery evening in August 1981, five men boarded a small Cessna for a routine flight from Proserpine to Sydney. Steering clear of RAAF airspace near Newcastle, the pilot became disoriented in the notorious Barrington Mountain area. As the wings iced up, his panicked last transmission of "5000!" is the last the world would hear of the ill-fated men for the next 38 years. INDI, a Swedish academic, receives a grant to study Relic Hominids in Australia. On her flight to Australia she overhears two Qantas Flight Attendants discussing a small plane that went down and is still cocooned within the rugged Barrington Tops. Staying at an Intentional Community in the Barrington area INDI adapts to Australian life. She forms strong friendships with PJ, a stereotypical Australian bloke, and FRAN, a diamond in the rough with a hidden agenda. The trio set out to visit cave art of the Worimi people. INDI is intrigued by the stories of the Dreamtime and the Hairy Man or Yowie and begins to form the conceptual framework of her studies. The trio realise they are being followed and with each disturbing encounter FRAN unravels and reveals the details of a traumatic training exercise in the bush years previously. Meanwhile a fierce bushfire is raging towards the community. As the members fight to save their property an attempt is made to signal the trio. The fire isn't noticed by the trekkers until they move out along the valley rim and a frantic dash to the cave ensues leading to a tragic demise for one of them. Enroute a chilling discovery is made eventually unravelling the answers PJ has been seeking and his connection to the lost plane
