Isabelle Tchang in My Town

Set in Nice during the 1960s. Sophie and her girlfriends, born and brought up in the town, have to deal with parents, school, fashion and fashions, religion and of course boys at a time of great change. Nice is not a town that likes rapid change. However, in the course of the twenty years following the War, the children of the baby-boom start to suffocate under the yoke of the old ways. Friendship is very important for Sophie, but friends are not as loyal as she is, and boys are an attractive evil. When she meets Isabelle, they decide to change their lives. The Students Revolution of May 68 arrives like a tsunami changing many people's attitude. Isabelle, the underprivileged one, will help the middle-class Sophie to overcome her complexes, while Sophie, for her part, will help Isabelle to find fulfillment. And yet, some mothers firmly believe that education is the only thing that will save women. Others, like Marilène's mother, think that finding a wealthy husband is the best solution but Sophie would like her friends to be happy and thinks that she can stop them making bad choices. Isabelle will achieve her dream thanks to Sophie but will pay heavily for it. Sophie will come close to losing hers through lack of confidence. Dreams have to yield to circumstances and to achieve them, one must have nothing to lose ... or else have luck on their side. After tasting brief happy love, the girls will strive to find it again. Would Roseline, Marilene or Isabelle have had a different life without Sophie? Can tragedy be avoided? The answers lie in this chronical of the life in the 60's on a French Riviera that is not the Scott Fitzgerald'sThe chapters of this narrative are written in the form of short stories linked to each other, links forged by the recurrence of the characters.
