Research on Diabetes II provides the latest research and development in the area of diabetes by presenting a succinct review of the works that researchers struggling to find answers for 200 million diabetics world-wide, where the number of those afflicted is expected to double, if not triple, in coming decades.

Chapter 1 describes the strong relationship between diabetes (DM) and infection. Infections can elicit diabetes or make glycaemic control difficult. Chapter 2 presents the idea of using traditional indian medicinal plants used in the traditional Ayurvedic system to treat diabetes. Chapter 3 discusses the nutritional content of organic prickly pads. Findings show that different fiber quantity and mineral content along life cycle of prickly pads, suggesting that prickly pads are excellent option for people with diabetes due to the beneficial nutritional properties.

Chapter 6 addresses the issue of erectile dysfunction. It is a common health related and quality of life issue in the diabetic patients population.

Chapter 7 presents that fact that the presence of infection in a patient on dialysis has a substantial effect on cardiovascular mortality and morbidity, and should influence decisions regarding the use of therapies intended to minimize that risk. Chapter 8 discusses various cardiovascular effects of diabetes in the pediatric population as diabetes is a chronic disease which affects in a way or another all the stages of childhood. Chapter 11 provides several important and handy tools which can be used by obstetricians, embryologists, perinatologists, forensic pathologists and clinical anthropologists for their diagnostic armamentarium so that they can arrive at highly scientific management of their patients even in areas far removed from sophisticated clinical gadgetry. Chapter 12 attempts to advance our understanding of genetic basis of autoimmunity in disease pathogenesis, facilitates determining an individual's disease status and promotes better treatment modalities against systemic lupus erythematosus.

Chapter 13 illustrates the complicated relationship from the pathogenetic mechanisms to the potential source of infections for humans. Convincing evidence to date indicates that viral and bacterial agents could be associated with Diabetes Mellitus development and progression. Chapter 14 provides a brief overview of molecular level studies on neuroimmune state of patients with long-term diabetes mellitus, including those with acute ischemic stroke, and demonstrates implication of neuroimmune alterations in pathomechanisms responsible for development and progression of diabetic complications.
