An Die Ferne Geliebte

Hamburg born pianist Alexander Krichel, who lives in London "is one of Germany's most talented pianists, "(Piano News). He inspires audiences and the press with a playing which is "clear, bright, transparent and of fluid virtuosity" (Rondo). His new album contains a unique selection of romantic pieces by Beethoven, Schumann, Kreisler and Wagner. Beethovens songcycle from 1816 "An die ferne Geliebte" was his first song cycle. Liszts, who admired Beethovens work, transcribed this cycle for solo piano in 1849. Schumanns Symphonic Etudes Op. 13 is a set of etudes for solo piano which was dedicated to Schumann's English friend, the pianist and composer William Sterndale Bennett. The two waltzes "Liebesleid" and "Liebesfreud" were originally written by Franz Kreisler for violin and piano. In the second Liszt transcription on this album is "Isoldes Liebestod" from the third act of Wagner's opera "Tristan und Isolde".
