3 CD Set from Belgium Mammoth world premiere recording of complete Dimitri Tiomkin score for legendary John Wayne recreation of iconic Texas battle. Vivid, close-mike recording captures incredible detail, complexity of Tiomkin masterpiece. Sure-foot performance shows off both expressive passages, thundering action sequences. Haunting main theme ("The Green Leaves Of Summer") anchors, but rousing idea for armies of General Santa Anna, secondary "Ballad of the Alamo" theme, epic battle music are all highlights. And special spotlight on florid trumpet solo in Spanish-flavor, heard in opening titles as "De Guello", used powerfully for Crockett's final scene. Solid liner notes add icing to sweet cake!
